San Antonio – St. Mary’s University men’s soccer player Joseph Diaz was named Heartland Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his play against Hardin-Simmons last week, it was announced by the conference office.

Diaz (Fr., San Antonio) scored the first goal of his career – and the first goal of the season for the Rattlers – keying a 5-1 win over Hardin-Simmons last Wednesday. He broke the Rattlers 291-minute scoreless drought, taking a pass from Adam Villanueva (Jr., DeSoto) and blasting it off the goalkeepers’ hands and into the net. He later assisted on a goal by Sean Strater (So., Carrollton) to ice the game for the Rattlers. His three points leads the St. Mary’s squad this season.

St. Mary’s will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 28, when they host Northeastern State University at Noon at St. Mary’s University Soccer Field. The Rattlers scheduled game against St. Edward’s University on Sunday, Sept. 21, was postponed until Oct. 17.
