San Antonio – St. Mary’s University men’s and women’s tennis coach Ian Ward announced on Thursday the signing San Antonio native Erica Carmona to a National Letter of Intent to join the Rattlers, starting with the 2008-09 academic year.

Carmona (Fr., Converse) was a four-year letterwinner for coach Chris Schulte’s squad at Karen Wagner High School. As a senior she placed fourth in the district. She also was the team captain as a senior. Off the court she was a four-year member of the Honor Roll, captain of the Academic Decathlon Team, Student Council President and a member of the National Honor Society.

Carmona is the first signee for the Rattlers for 2008-09. St. Mary’s advanced to the semifinals of the Heartland Conference Tennis Championships and had a 6-15 overall record this season.
