San Antonio – St. Mary’s University baseball players Jonathon Rosfeld and Tyler Cales were named Heartland Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for their play last week, it was announced by the conference office on Thursday.

Rosfeld (Fr., San Antonio) helped lead the Rattlers to a perfect 4-0 record last week, hitting .550 with a 10 RBI and 10 runs scored. He had one double, one triple, a homerun and two stolen bases for the week. He also drew four walks to post a .625 on-base percentage. Rosfeld had hits in all four games last week, including three games with two or more hits.

He started the week in impressive fashion, picking up his first five-hit game as a Rattler. In the game he went 5-of-6 with a homerun, three RBI, six runs scored and two stolen bases against Tarleton State. The six runs scored tied for the second most in school history. He followed that up with a 2-for-4 performance with a triple, three RBI and a run scored in the opener against Lincoln. He then went 3-of-6 with a double, RBI and two runs scored in the second game of the doubleheader. He drove in three runs in the series finale on Saturday.

For the season Rosfeld is second on the team with a .424 batting average and has hits in 21 of 24 games this season, including the last 10 in a row. He has seven doubles, two triples, a homerun, 26 RBI, 37 runs scored and nine stolen bases.
 
Cales (Jr., San Antonio) picked up his first complete game as a Rattler, allowing just five hits and one earned run against Lincoln in the series finale on Saturday. He struck out five and walked just two in the nine-inning complete game. For the season Cales has the top ERA on the squad with a 1.72 in 31.1 innings of work. He is 2-0 in four starts and six overall appearances. He has struck out 23 batters in 31.1 innings and opposing hitters are batting just .211 against him.

The honors marked the third time this season that the Rattlers have been honored by the conference. Rosfeld is the second Rattler named Hitter of the Week, joining Jonathon Cisneros (So., San Antonio), who was honored in the first week of the season. Cales is the second Rattler to earn Pitcher of the Week recognition, joining Scott Shimek (Jr., Shiner).

St. Mary’s is 18-7 overall and 15-4 in Heartland Conference play this season after a 12-7 loss to Angelo State University on Tuesday. The Rattlers will take the field next on Friday when they host Texas A&M International University in a Heartland Conference doubleheader starting at noon at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium. The game will be the first of a three-game series, with the final game taking place on Saturday at noon.
