San Antonio – St. Mary’s University pounded out 21 hits and scored 15 runs as the Rattlers split a doubleheader against the University of the Incarnate Word in Heartland Conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium.

The Rattlers smacked their second-highest hit total of the season with 21. Eight different Rattlers had at least one hit in the game, with five posting two or more. Danny Cantu (Jr., Laredo) had a career-high five hits and brought home three runs in the game. Weston Baros (Fr., San Antonio) and Reagan Moczygemba (Fr., Bulverde) each added four hits in the contest.

The Rattlers scored seven runs in the first two innings and added five more in the fourth inning to take a commanding early lead and never were headed after that. Ben Odom (So., Richmond) picked up his fifth win of the season, going 4 2/3 innings. Michael Villareal (Jr., Eagle Pass) came on in relief and tossed 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

In the first game the Cardinals scored eight runs in the first inning and won 12-3. Bobby Freeman (Sr., Fair Oaks Ranch) went 3-for-3, while Jonathon Rosfeld (Fr., San Antonio) was 2-for-4 in the loss.

With the split the Rattlers are now 32-16 overall and 28-12 in Heartland Conference play. UIW is now 35-14 and 31-11. The Rattlers will return to action on Friday when they host Lincoln University in the final home series of the season at 2 p.m.
