San Antonio – Danny Cantu led a 20-hit St. Mary’s University attack at the plate and Ben Odom tossed six strong innings to pick up his first win as a Rattler on the mound, leading the Rattlers to a 21-5 win over Tarleton State University in non-conference baseball action Tuesday afternoon at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium.

Cantu (Jr., Laredo) went 3-of-4 with a homerun, six RBI and a run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Rattlers. All nine St. Mary’s starters had at least one hit, with four players picking up three hits each. Michael Brzezinski (Jr., Helotes), Reagan Moczygemba (Fr., Bulverde) and Bobby Freeman (Sr., Fair Oaks Ranch) all had three hits as well.

St. Mary’s broke out on a top in the bottom of the first inning, sending 11 batters to the plate that innings and picked up seven runs. They scored in each of the first three innings, and then added seven more in the fifth to put the game well out of reach.

Meanwhile, Ben Odom (So., San Antonio) was strong in his first start as a Rattler. He allowed just two unearned runs on six hits and one walk, while striking out five to improve to 1-0 on the season. For the Texans Matthew Anderson took the loss, falling to 0-1.

With the win the Rattlers have now won four in a row and are 4-1 on the season. Tarleton State dropped to 5-3. St. Mary’s will return to action on Friday when they host the University of Texas of the Permian Basin at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium in a Heartland Conference doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
