San Antonio – St. Mary’s University baseball coach Charlie Migl announced on Friday the signing of Helotes native Joshua McElroy, San Antonio native Jonathon Perez and San Antonio native Esteban Raygoza to national letters of intent to join the Rattlers starting with the 2009 season.

McElroy is a 5’10” outfielder/shortstop at O’Connor High School, where he is a standout for coach David Collenback. In his first three years he has earned all-district honors twice, once at shortstop and once in the outfield. He has also been a standout off the field, earning academic all-district honors and is a member of the Honor Roll.

Perez is a 5’10” right-handed pitcher/outfielder from Stevens High School, where he was a standout for coach Preston Rogers. He threw a no-hitter against Clark High School as a senior in 2008.

Raygoza is a 6’1″ shortstop/pitcher at Luther Burbank High School for coach Pedro Barrera. He has earned all-district honors all three of his years at Burbank. He earned all-area and all-state honors at shortstop as a junior in 2007. He also helped the school to the area championship in his junior season.

McElroy, Perez and Raygoza are the first signees for the Rattlers for the 2009 season. St. Mary’s is 27-13 overall and 23-10 in Heartland Conference play heading into their doubleheader against Newman University Friday afternoon.
