San Antonio – St. Mary’s University men’s basketball coach Jim Zeleznak announced on Friday the signing of Allen native Jeff Steinbaugh to a national letter of intent to join the Rattlers, starting with the 2008-09 academic year. Steinbaugh is the tenth signee for the Rattlers this offseason.

Steinbaugh (5’11”, G, Jr., Allen) comes to San Antonio after playing the last two years for coach Jon Felmet at Richland Junior College. He averaged 10.2 points, 6.6 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals as a sophomore in 2007-08. Steinbaugh helped the Thunderducks advance to the Metro-Atlantic Conference tournament with a 17-14 record. Off the court he earned the President’s Award for his work in the classroom. Prior to his time at Richland, he was a two-time all-district honoree for Allen High School, playing for coach Jeff Higgins.

St. Mary’s finished the 2007-08 season with a 17-13 record and won the Heartland Conference Tournament title. They fell to Tarleton State University in the first round of the NCAA South Central Region Tournament.
