GRANBURY – Jenna Wessels finished 28th overall individually, helping St. Mary’s University to a ninth place finish at the Tarleton State University/Coca Cola Classic women’s golf tournament, played Sunday at the Harbor Lakes Golf Course. The tournament was shortened to just one round after rain washed out the first round, scheduled for Saturday.

Wessels (So., Katy) shot an 86 to tie for 28th overall with an 86. Amanda Anderson (Jr., San Antonio) was the second Rattler finisher with a 39th place total of 88. Ursula Perez (Fr., San Antonio) was 47th with a 90, Marie Hulsey (So., El Paso) was 57th with a 92 and Sonya Sanchez (So., McCamey) finished 82nd with a 106.

St. Edward’s Alex Smith shot a 75 to win the individual title while Shraddhanjali Singh and Maury Shock tied for second with a 76 each.  Shock won the scorecard playoff to take second while Isadora Stapff of Barry took fourth over Katie Miller on another scorecard playoff.

Host Tarleton State, ranked third in the nation, won the team title with a score of 310. Fifth-ranked Barry (317) and ninth-ranked Northeastern State (317) tied for second, but Barry got the nod on a scorecard playoff. St. Edward’s finished fourth with a 318. West Texas A&M was fifth, Henderson State was sixth, Western New Mexico was seventh, Central Oklahoma was eighth and St. Mary’s placed ninth.

Sunday’s tournament was the first of the spring for St. Mary’s. The Rattlers will return to action on Feb. 25-26 when they host the Lady Rattler Classic at the Dominion Country Club.
