San Antonio–Samantha Weber had 27 kills, while Danielle Mittelstadt had a double-double, but St. Mary’s University lost a two games to none lead and fell to the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, 20-30, 25-30, 30-21, 30-24, 15-9, in Heartland Conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon at Bill Greehey Arena.

Weber (Sr., Fort Lupton, Colo.) posted her second straight 20-plus kill match with 27 against just nine errors in 45 attacks. She also had seven digs and two service aces. Stephanie Crowell (So., The Woodlands), Mittelstadt (Fr., New Braunfels) and Tiffany Jansky (So., Poth) each had 10 kills for the Rattlers.

St. Mary’s looked nearly unbeatable as they hit .315 with 33 kills in rolling to a pair of wins. However, starting in the third game UTPB turned the match around. They picked up 10 of their 12 blocks over the final three games and hit .240, while holding the Rattlers to just a .121 attack percentage. In game five the Falcons took an 8-4 lead and never let up in a 15-9 to clinch the victory.

For the Falcons Amithy Henry had 15 kills, while Mica Lamprecht picked up 14. Diondra Arenas had 10 kills and eight blocks.

With the loss the Rattlers saw their season end with a 14-17 overall record and a 7-7 mark in the Heartland Conference. With St. Edward’s University and Texas A&M International University winning on Saturday the Rattlers were eliminated from the Heartland Conference Tournament. Texas-Permian Basin improved to 23-11 overall and 12-2 in Heartland play, clinching the regular season title.
