San Antonio – St. Mary’s University shot 50 percent from the field, but committed 25 turnovers and fell to Midwestern State University, 75-63, in non-conference men’s basketball action Saturday night at Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs used a 30-point performance from Nolan Richardson IV to slowly pull away from the Rattlers in the second half. The only other Mustang to score in double figures in the game was Chris Davis with 19 points.

Latez Williams (Sr., Hamilton, Ohio) was the only Rattler to score in double figures in the game with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field. Robert Owens (Jr., Oakwood) scored eight points and pulled down seven rebounds for the Rattlers. Allen Coleman (Sr., Corpus Christi) and Rod Bellard (Jr., Beaumont) each added nine points.

St. Mary’s hit on 50.0 percent (23-46) of their shots from the field, but made just seven field goals in the first half en route to scoring just 16 points. They committed 17 of their 25 turnovers in the first half. In the second half the Rattlers made 16-of-30 shots from the field in the second half, but trailed by as much as 16 points in the second period.

With the loss the Rattlers have now dropped three straight games and fell to 5-6 overall this season. Midwestern State improved to 6-4. The Rattlers will return to action on Jan. 4 when they travel to Dallas to face Dallas Baptist University.
