DALLAS–Amanda McMullan’s goal in the 87th minute helped St. Mary’s University rally from behind for the second time to post a 4-3 win over Dallas Baptist University in Heartland Conference women’s soccer action Thursday afternoon. The St. Mary’s volleyball team fell to DBU by a three games to one count, 30-17, 22-30, 30-24, 30-17.

The Rattler women’s soccer team fell behind by a 2-0 count at the half, getting outshot 7-3 by the Patriots. But, for the second straight game, the Rattlers rallied behind a late offensive explosion. Deann Lopez (Sr., El Paso) cut the deficit to one at 2-1 with a goal in the 48th minute. Carolina Hernandez (Fr., El Paso) followed with a goal five minutes later to tie the game at 2-2.

But Dallas Baptist retook the lead in the 66th minute when Mandy Gomez scored off a perfect shot to the upper right corner. But the Rattlers were unfazed by the turn of events and quickly re-tied the game when Elizabeth Hoffman (Jr., Plano) scored her fourth goal of the season in the 69th minute. That set up McMullan’s (Jr., Allen) heroics with just 3:58 left in the game, to give the Rattlers their fourth win in the last five games.

St. Mary’s is now 6-4 overall and 2-1 in Heartland Conference play. DBU is now 2-5, 0-1. The Rattlers will return to action on Sunday when they host the 13th-ranked University of Central Oklahoma at St. Mary’s University Soccer Field, starting at noon.

The Rattler volleyball team was upset by the Patriots in four games, putting St. Mary’s at 8-9 overall and 3-2 in Heartland play. Samantha Weber (Fort Lupton, Colo.) led the way for the Rattlers with 15 kills and four blocks. Kori McCarver (Fr., San Antonio) had 12 kills.

St. Mary’s will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Odessa to face the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in a Heartland Conference match, starting at 2 p.m.
