San Antonio–St. Mary’s University fell to both Central Missouri State University and the University of Arkansas-Monticello in action on the opening day of the St. Mary’s University/Texas MedClinic Invitational Friday at Bill Greehey Arena.
 
In the opening match the Rattlers played toe-to-toe with the 12th-ranked Jennies, but fell in four games by a score of 30-22, 24-30, 30-19, 30-24. In her first match as a Rattler Kori McCarver (Fr., San Antonio) had 11 kills and seven digs. Samantha Weber (Sr., Ft. Lupton, Colo.) had 14 kills and eight digs.
 
In the second match of the day for the Rattlers St. Mary’s rallied to tie the match at one game each and had an opportunity to win game three, but fell by a slim 31-29 margin. UAM then wrapped up the match with a 30-24 win in the final game to win the match. Weber again led the way with 18 kills and three aces, while Laura Sudano (Sr., East Setauket, N.Y.) had 10 kills, 13 digs and six aces.
 
The Rattlers fell to 0-2 with the losses, while both Central Missouri and Arkansas-Monticello are both 2-0. St. Mary’s will return to action on Saturday when they face Cameron University at 3 p.m. at Bill Greehey Arena. They will wrap up play in the tournament at 8 p.m. with a match against Indiana University-Pennsylvania.
 
In other action at the tournament Central Missouri defeated Indiana-Pennsylvania and Cameron, while Cameron defeated Indiana-Pennsylvania and Arkansas-Monticello defeated Cameron.
