San Antonio – Fourteenth-ranked St. Edward’s University scored three second half goals to defeat St. Mary’s University 3-0 in Heartland Conference women’s soccer action Wednesday afternoon at SEU Soccer Field.

The teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first half, combining for just six shots. But the Hilltoppers Kim Abbott blocked a clear from a St. Mary’s defender and dribbled in for a one-on-one with Jamie Talley (Fr., Iowa Park) and found the upper right corner of the net to take a 1-0 lead just 36 seconds into the second half. The Hilltoppers added two more goals to put the game out of reach.

In the game St. Edward’s took 16 shots, while the Rattlers took two shots. Talley made five saves, while SEU goalkeeper Troi Jorgensen made two saves.

St. Mary’s fell to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in Heartland Conference play with the loss. With the win, St. Edward’s impoved to 6-2, 1-0. The Rattlers will return to action on Friday when they host Texas A&M University-Commerce at St. Mary’s University Soccer Field at 3 p.m.
