San Antonio – Southwestern University ended the St. Mary’s University women’s tennis team’s home season on a down note, defeating the Rattlers 9-0 in action Friday afternoon at the St. Mary’s University Tennis Courts.
Coming the closest to wins were Janet Sholles (So., Suriname) and Amanda McMullan (So., Allen). Sholles fell in straight sets to Leslie Smith at number two singles by a 6-3, 6-4 count. McMullan, playing at number six singles fell by an even tougher, 6-4, 6-4, count to Emily Gutzmer.
In doubles the Rattlers also dropped all three matches, but Alison Pino (Sr., Corpus Christi) and Hayley Harris (So., El Campo) nearly picked up the win at number one doubles, falling by just an 8-6 count to Mary Pennington and Smith.
With the loss the Rattlers fell to 1-10 overall. They will return to action on April 20 when they travel to Dallas, to play in the Heartland Conference Tournament.
