San Antonio – Malissa Magee tossed her first no-hitter of the season, helping St. Mary’s University to wins over Southeastern Oklahoma State University and Texas Woman’s University in softball action Friday afternoon at the St. Mary’s Division II College Classic, held at the San Antonio Independent School District Spring Sports Complex.

Magee (Jr., Houston) allowed just one Savage Storm player to reach base in six innings of work. She struck out six and walked one in six innings to improve to 2-0 on the young season. In 13 innings this season she has allowed two hits and one walk, while striking out 16.

Backing up Magee’s strong pitching the Rattler offense posted four doubles and eight hits against Southeastern Oklahoma State. Ashley Flores (So., Friendswood) had a two-run single, Lindsay Magaro (Sr., Elmendorf) had two hits and two runs and Lindsay Barnes (Jr., San Antonio) also drove in a pair of runs for the Rattlers. Barnes sacrifice fly scored Kelcy Walker (Jr., San Antonio) and gave the Rattlers an eight-run lead, ending the game.

In the first game of the day the Rattlers rallied from an early deficit to defeat Texas Woman’s in extra innings. Freshman Taryn Munoz (Bulverde) allowed three of the first four batters she faced to reach base and the Pioneers took advantage, scoring three first inning runs. However, Munoz bounced back to retire 10 straight batters before Britanny Kettinger (Jr., Azle) took over on the mound. While Munoz and Kettinger were shutting down the Pioneers, the Rattler offense came alive. St. Mary’s picked up a single run in the first and fourth innings. In the sixth, Mary K Pederson (Jr., Houston) singled and stole second to lead off. A ground out allowed Pederson to reach third and Walker brought her home with a single to center, tying the game at three. In the eighth inning Walker singled down the rightfield line to score Jenna Saucedo (So., San Antonio) to end the affair.

With the wins the Rattlers are now 3-0 to start the 2007 season. St. Mary’s will return to action on Saturday at 11:15 a.m. when they take on #19 Abilene Christian University at 11:15 a.m. They will also take on Midwestern State University at 3:45 p.m.
