San Antonio – St. Mary’s University men’s soccer player David Peterson was named Heartland Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his play over the first two weeks of the season, it was announced by the conference office this week.

Peterson (Fr., Saginaw) has wasted no time in making his mark on the St. Mary’s soccer program. Over his first five games as a Rattler Peterson has scored four goals to lead the Heartland Conference.

After getting shut out in his first collegiate game, he tallied the game-winner in the Rattlers 2-1 win over the University Colorado-Colorado Springs in his second game. Against Texas-Permian Basin he scored the only goal of the game in the Rattlers 1-0 Heartland Conference win. Then on Sunday he had his first multiple-goal game as a Rattler, putting in two in the Rattlers 4-1 win over Newman. He has taken just nine shots to this point in the season, with four finding the back of the net, including two game-winning goals.

Peterson and the Rattlers will return to action on Sunday at noon when they host Eastern New Mexico University on the St. Mary’s University Soccer Field. The Rattlers are 3-2 overall and 2-0 in Heartland Conference play so far this season.
