JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Michael Pawelek hit homeruns in five straight at-bats and St. Mary’s University smacked a total of 10 homeruns as the Rattlers rolled past Lincoln University, 12-5, 16-4, in Heartland Conference Baseball Action Saturday afternoon LU Baseball Field.

Pawelek (Sr., San Antonio) was retired in each of his two at-bats of the day against the Blue Tigers. But starting with his third at-bat he went on a monster streak. He smacked homeruns in each of his last two at-bats of the first game, and then followed that up with long balls in each of his first three at-bats of the second game. The three homeruns in a single game tied the St. Mary’s school record, while the five homeruns in five at-bats is a new school record.

Michael Brzezinski (So., Helotes) went a combined 4-of-8 with two homeruns, four RBI and five runs scored. Jason Anderson (Sr., Lancaster, Calif.) also a big day, going a combined 6-of-8 with three homeruns, seven RBI and five runs scored. He went a perfect 4-of-4 in the second game.

Zach Kucera (Jr., Spring) tossed a complete game to get the win in game one. He allowed five runs on four hits and four walks, while striking out five to improve to 9-3 this season. In the second game Tommy Vrzal (Sr., San Antonio) improved to 9-1, throwing a complete game victory. He allowed four runs on five hits, five walks and five strikeouts.

In the doubleheader the Rattlers scored 28 runs on 29 hits. The Rattlers have now won six games in a row and nine of the last 11 games.

St. Mary’s is now 36-16 overall and 28-10 in Heartland Conference play. Lincoln fell to 17-36 and 13-25. The teams will wrap up their four-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday, starting at noon.
