San Antonio – James Grant fired a final round 74 to tie for fifth overall, helping St. Mary’s University to a fourth place finish in the team standings of the St. Mary’s University/Bruce Williams Memorial Invitational Tuesday at Pecan Valley Golf Club.

Grant (So., San Antonio) followed up his opening round 76 with a two-birdie, four bogey, final round to finish at eight-over par. The tournament was played in rainy and windy conditions on Monday, forcing the tournament to be shortened to just 36 holes, and preventing play from being completed on the opening day. On Tuesday the windy conditions persisted, but the skies cleared for the final day.

Right behind Grant was Alex Maurer (Jr., St. Louis, Mo.), who recovered from an opening round 81, to fire a one-under par 70 and place in a tie for 10th place, just one stroke behind Grant. Jerry Holguin (Fr., San Antonio) and Jadon Mehra (Fr., San Antonio) both tied for 16th overall with two-round totals of 153. Jimmy Willingham (Sr., San Antonio) finished tied for 26th with a 154. Matt Vela (Fr., San Antonio) and Preston Akromis (Jr., San Antonio) tied for 37th with identical 158s.

Overall, Colby Shrum of the University of Central Oklahoma fired a one-under par 70 to finish at 142 and edge out Mitch Hendon of Texas Wesleyan by one stroke for individual honors in the tournament. Armando Villareal of TWU was third with a 144. In the team competition Texas Wesleyan shot a seven-over par 291 to win by 11 strokes over Central Oklahoma. Northeastern State University was third with a 607, St. Mary’s was fourth with a 608 and St. Edward’s University was fifth with a 609.

With the conclusion of the St. Mary’s/Bruce Williams Memorial Invitational, the Rattlers have completed the fall season. They will return to the course in the spring.
