San Antonio – St. Mary’s University softball player Malissa Magee was named Heartland Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for her play against Tarleton State University and the University of the Incarnate Word, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Magee (Jr., Houston) upped her record to 9-3 with a pair of wins last week. She was 2-0 with a 0.50 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 14.0 innings of work as the Rattlers went 3-1. In the first game of the week, against seventh-ranked Incarnate Word, she allowed just six hits, while striking out five in the complete game win. In the first game on Saturday against Tarleton State she allowed just one run on five hits in a complete game win. At one point she retired 15 straight batters.

For the season she is now 9-3 with a 0.84 ERA. She has struck out 76 batters in 75.1 innings of work. She has nine complete games, including five shutouts this season. Opponents are batting just. .171 against her.

The award marked the second time this season that Magee has been honored by the Heartland Conference. She earned pitcher of the week honors for the week of Jan. 29-Feb. 4. Three Rattlers have earned Heartland Hitter of the Week recognition this season. Kelcy Walker (Jr., San Antonio) was picked for the week of Jan. 29-Feb. 4, while Lindsay Barnes (Jr., San Antonio) received the honor for the week of Feb. 5-11 and Nikki Flores (So., Friendswood) was named hitter of the week for the week of Feb. 12-18.

With their split of a doubleheader against Texas A&M University-Kingsville yesterday, the Rattlers are now 15-6 overall this season. St. Mary’s will return to action on Thursday when they host Trinity University in a doubleheader at Rattler Field, starting at 5 p.m.
