Jessica Harbin Wins Heartland Golf Title

IRVING – Jessica Harbin won her first Heartland Conference individual championship by eight strokes, helping St. Mary’s University to a second place finish at the 2007 Heartland Conference Women’s Golf Championship, played at the Hackberry Creek Country Club Tuesday.

Harbin (Sr., Tuscola) tied for the lowest round of the day for the second straight day, firing a three-over par 75.  She carded three birdies and 10 pars on the par-72 Hackberry Creek Course. The birdies came on the par-four sixth hole, par-three 11th hole and the par-three 17th hole. Harbin earned All-Heartland Conference honors for the third straight season with the win. She has four tournament victories this season.

Coming in second, eight strokes behind Harbin, was Allison Kinser of St. Edward’s University, who tied Harbin for the low round of the day. She finished with a two-round total of 156 (81-75). Finishing third was her teammate Emily Kvinta, who was one stroke behind Harbin after round one, but shot a second-round 84 to fall out of contention at 158 (74-84). Heather Wilbur of host Dallas Baptist University was fourth and Rachel Ward of Newman University was fifth.

Elizabeth Brandt (Sr., Scottsdale) finished in a tie for sixth overall with a two-round total of 170 (83-87). Amanda Anderson (So., San Antonio) was 11th with a 177 (87-90) and Marie Hulsey (Fr., El Paso) was 19th with a 189 (90-99).

St. Edward’s won the team championship by 22 strokes over the Rattlers with a 662 (325-337). St. Mary’s was second with a 684 (333-351). Dallas Baptist was third with a 700 (333-351), Newman was fourth with a 716 (350-366), Montana State University-Billings was fifth with a 741 (375-366), the University of the Incarnate Word was sixth with a 746 (380-366) and Oklahoma Panhandle State University was seventh with a 921 (451-470).

St. Mary’s will next head to the NCAA Division II West Region Tournament, set for April 30-May 1 at the Golf Club at Circle C in Austin. The Rattlers finished sixth at the 2006 West Regional.
