Harbin Tied for Eighth at NCAA West Regional
AUSTIN – St. Mary’s University women’s golfer Jessica Harbin fired a 77 to tie for eighth place after the first round of the NCAA Division II West Regional Women’s Golf Tournament, played Monday at The Golf Club at Circle C.
Harbin (Sr., Tuscola) had three birdies during the first round, which was interrupted by rain in the Austin area. She struggled early, bogeying four of the first five holes. But she settled down after that, picking up three birdies and three bogies over the final 14 holes. She birdied the par five 17th, the par four 1st and par three 8th.
Shraddhanjali Singh of Tarleton State University leads the tournament by four strokes after firing a two-under par 70 on the par 72 course. Four strokes back is teammate Alesha Hurt at two-over par 74. Stephanie Bird of Northeastern State University, Allison Kinser of St. Edward’s University and Babe Prante of St. Martin’s College are tied for third place five strokes back. Emily Kvinta of St. Edward’s and Mari Suursalu of the University of Central Oklahoma are tied for sixth place at 76. Harbin is tied for eighth with seven other players with a first round 77.
In the team standings Tarleton State is in the lead by a single stroke with a first round 307. Northeastern State is second with a 308. St. Edward’s is four strokes back at 311, Western Washington is five strokes off the pace with a 312. Central Oklahoma is fifth with a 320 and Western New Mexico University is sixth with a 323.
The second round of the NCAA Division West Regional Women’s Golf Tournament will be played on Tuesday, starting at 8 a.m. The final round will be played on Wednesday. The top two teams along with the top two individuals not with a team will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship on May 9-12 at Stonebrook Golf Club in Pensacola, Fla.
