San Antonio – St. Mary’s University baseball player Ricky Gonzalez was named Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week for his play last week against Montana State University-Billings, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Gonzalez (Jr., Houston) had his best week as a Rattler. He entered Wednesday’s doubleheader against Montana State-Billings with just five at-bats so far this season, but took advantage of his second and third starts of the season. In the first game he went 4-of-4 with homeruns in three straight at-bats. That total tied the St. Mary’s single-game school record. His eight RBI is the second highest single-game total in school history. His four hits and four runs scored both tied for the fifth most in school history. He had two hits in three at-bats in the first game of the doubleheader on Thursday.

For the season Gonzalez is batting .400 with a double, three homeruns, 10 RBI and six runs scored in 10 games played.

Gonzalez is the third Rattler to earn Heartland Conference honors this season. Cody Pyle (Sr., Spring Branch) was named hitter of the week last week, while Tommy Vrzal (Sr., San Antonio) earned pitcher of the week honors last week.

Gonzalez and the Rattlers (9-4 overall, 7-1 Heartland Conference) will return to action on Friday when they travel to Goodwell, Okla., to face Oklahoma Panhandle State University in a doubleheader, starting at noon.
