San Antonio – St. Mary’s University women’s basketball player Natalie Gamez was named Heartland Conference women’s basketball player of the week for the week of Nov. 26-Dec. 2, it was announced by the conference office Friday.

Gamez (Jr., San Antonio) helped lead the Rattlers to a perfect week, averaging 22.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, while shooting 73.7 percent from the field (14-19). She also hit on 4-of-5 shots from three-point range and 13-of-19 free throws.

She started the week by scoring 22 points, pulling down seven rebounds and dishing out four assists in the Rattlers 73-58 win over East Central. She followed that up by being the only Rattler to score in double figures against Huston-Tillotson. She scored 23 points on 6-of-7 shooting and pulled down 10 rebounds in the 60-49 win over the Rams. The double-double was the first of the season for Gamez.

For the season she is averaging 20.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, while shooting a sizzling 56.5 percent from the field.

The award marked the second straight week that a Rattler has been named Heartland Player of the Week. Rachel Jones (Jr., Little Rock, Ark.) was named Player of the Week last week, giving St. Mary’s the top player in the conference two of the three weeks they have given the award this season.

St. Mary’s is currently 3-4 overall this season and has won its last two games. The Rattlers will return to action tonight when they take on Ouachita Baptist University at 6 p.m. in Arkadelphia, Ark., in the first round of the Ouachita Baptist Classic.
