San Antonio – St. Mary’s University baseball player Ray Camacho was named Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week for his play against Texas A&M University-Kingsville and St. Edward’s University last week it was announced by the conference office Wednesday.

For the second straight week Camacho (Sr., Converse) was nearly unstoppable, hitting .556 with two triples, a homerun, four RBI and eight runs scored. He had three or more hits three times last week, including four against St. Edward’s in the second game of the doubleheader Friday. Against Texas A&M-Kingsville he went 3-of-5 with a triple and three runs scored. In the series finale against SEU he went 3-of-4 with his third homerun of the season, two RBI and a run scored.

For the season Camacho is the leading hitter in the Heartland Conference with a .461 batting average, with eight doubles, two triples, three homeruns, 30 RBI and 32 runs scored.

Camacho’s honor marked the fourth straight week that a Rattler has earned Heartland Hitter of the Week honors. Rattlers have been named hitter of the week four out of the six weeks this season. Cody Pyle (Sr., Spring Branch) was named for Feb. 12-18, Ricky Gonzalez (Jr., Houston) earned it for Feb. 19-25 and Camacho has picked up the honor each of the last two weeks. Tommy Vrzal (Sr., San Antonio) was named pitcher of the week for the week of Feb. 12-18.

The baseball team was set to take on Tarleton State University in a doubleheader at 4 p.m. in Stephenville on Tuesday. Inclement weather forced the teams to play a single game on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Stephenville. The Rattlers are 15-7 overall this season and 12-4 in Heartland Conference play. They will return home this weekend for a three-game series against Texas A&M International University on Friday and Saturday.
