San Antonio – St. Mary’s University’s fall sports season will officially kick off Tuesday as the volleyball, men’s soccer and women’s soccer teams will have their first practices of the 2007-08 academic year.

The Rattler volleyball team, which finished 19-16 overall and was the Heartland Conference Tournament runner-up in 2006, will have its first practice at 10 a.m. in Bill Greehey Arena and will follow that up with a practice at 6:30 p.m. later that night. Head coach Todd Caughlin’s team returns six of seven starters from the 2006 team for the upcoming season. The Rattlers will open the 2007 season on Friday, August 24, when they host Central Missouri State University in the first round of the St. Mary’s University/Texas MedClinic Volleyball Tournament in Bill Greehey Arena.

The men’s soccer team has eight starters back from the 2006 squad that finished second in the Heartland Conference and won four of its last six games. The Rattlers will practice at 2 p.m. at the St. Mary’s University Soccer Field on Tuesday. Head coach Que Willis’ Rattlers will open the 2007 season on Sunday, August 26 at 1 p.m. against regionally ranked Midwestern State University at the St. Mary’s University Soccer Field.

The women’s soccer team returns six players from the 2006 squad that finished with a 10-4-5 record, just missing out on a berth into the NCAA Division II playoffs. The Rattlers recovered from a slow start to finish the season 8-2-2 and ranked fifth in the Southwest Region. Head coach Corwyn Ritch’s team has six starters back from the 2006 squad and also boasts an impressive recruiting class. The Rattlers will open the 2007 season on Sunday, August 27 at 11 a.m. at the St. Mary’s University Soccer Field against Georgian Court (N.J.).
