SAN ANGELO – Pinch hitter Bucky Strickland smacked a single to center, scoring Matt Lenderrman and completing a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Angelo State University to a 9-8 win over St. Mary’s University in non-conference baseball action Tuesday night at Foster Field.

The Rattlers took an 8-6 lead in the top of the ninth inning when Michael Brzezinski (So., Helotes) smacked a two-out, three-run homerun to give the Rattlers an 8-6 lead.

Zach Kucera (Jr., Spring) was in position to pick up the win for the Rattlers, but couldn’t hold the lead. Clay Calfee led off the inning with a single to center and was brought home by a Nate Hemm double to cut the Rattler lead to one at 8-7. Lenderman then tied things up with a single to center to score Hemm. Two batters later Strickland brought home Lenderman with a single to center.

Kucera dropped to 3-3 on the season with the loss, while Cody Broussard improved to 7-0 with the win in relief.

All nine St. Mary’s starting players had at least one hit in the game, led by Brzezinski, Jason Anderson (Sr., Lancaster, Calif.), Cody Pyle (Sr., Spring Branch), Jonathon Cisneros (Fr., San Antonio) and Jason Davila (Sr., Boerne), who all had two or more hits in the game.

With the loss the Rattlers fell to 21-10 overall, while Angelo State improved to 23-9. St. Mary’s will return to action on Friday when they travel to Odessa to play a doubleheader against the University of Texas of the Permian Basin at 1 p.m.
