San Antonio – Jamie Amoretti fired a final round 72, his best round of the tournament, to finish 10th overall and helped St. Mary’s University to an 11th place finish at the St. Edward’s Spring Invitational men’s golf tournament Tuesday at The Golf Club at Circle C.

Amoretti (Sr., San Antonio), the defending NCAA Division II National Champion, improved as the tournament went on firing rounds of 79, 75 and 72 for a three-round total of 226, good for a tie for 10th place overall – his fourth top-10 finish in six tournament this season. Taking medalist honors was Hernan Borja of Barry University with a three-round total of 216 (75-74-67), while teammate Nick Gillaspy finished one stroke back at 217 (72-72-73).

Also finishing for the Rattlers individually was KC Lim (Sr., San Antonio), who  placed 38th overall with a three-round total of 238, Alex Maurer (So., St. Louis, Mo.) was 45th with a 239, Jimmy Willingham (Jr., San Antonio) placed 51st with a 240 and Preston Akromis (So., San Antonio) took 59th with a 242.

St. Edward’s University won the team title with a three-round total of 897 (316-301-280). Barry placed second with a 900, Florida Institute of Technology was third with a 908 and Northeastern State was fourth with a 911. St. Mary’s finished 11th overall with a three-round score of 937.

The Rattlers will return to action on Monday, March 5 when they travel to Pottsboro to participate in the Texas A&M-Commerce Pepsi Crawford/Wade Invitational.
