San Antonio – Malissa Magee and Brittany Kettinger each tossed complete-game shutouts to lead 10th-ranked St. Mary’s University to a sweep of Lincoln University, 4-0, 2-0, in Heartland Conference softball action Monday afternoon at Rattler Field.

Magee (Jr., Houston) was dominant in improving to 12-5 overall this season. She allowed just two hits and no walks, while striking out 10 in the complete game win. Her ERA also dropped to just 0.75 this season.

The Rattlers gave her all the runs she would need in the first inning as Lindsay Barnes (Jr., San Antonio) singled with the bases loaded to score Sarah Cooper (Jr., Houston). The Rattlers added an insurance run in the fifth when Nikki Flores (So., Friendswood) singled in Cooper.

In the opener Kettinger (Jr., Azle) was equally dominant, allowing just two hits, while striking out six in the complete game. Nikki Nelke matched Kettinger for three innings, but a pair of errors opened the flood gates for the Rattlers. Kelcy Walker (Jr., San Antonio) and Heather Monroe (Fr., New Braunfels) each reached on an error to lead off and after Taryn Munoz (Fr., Bulverde) reached on a fielder’s choice, Mary K Pederson (Jr., Houston) lined a two-run single to center, giving St. Mary’s the lead for good.

Kettinger improved to 7-4 with the win, while Nelke was the tough luck loser, falling to 4-6, despite not allowing any earned runs in the game.

With the wins St. Mary’s is now 22-10 overall and 2-0 in Heartland Conference play. Lincoln fell to 4-9, 1-4. The teams will wrap up their four-game Heartland series with a doubleheader on Tuesday, starting at 2 p.m.
