St. Mary’s alumnus Michael Zolecki has been named head coach of the Cardinal Stritch University baseball team. As a Rattler Zolecki was selected to the 1993 All-Heart of Texas Conference Team, and was a member of the St. Mary’s team that competed in the 1993 NAIA World Series.

Drafted in the 5th round of the 1993 amateur baseball draft by the Colorado Rockies organization, Zolecki was rated a top-10 prospect for the Rockies in 1994 by Baseball America. Zolecki played five years in the Rockies organization and an additional season in the Chicago White Sox organization at the AA level. Zolecki completed his degree work during his off-seasons, earning a degree in marketing in 1998.

Zolecki served as the assistant baseball coach at Cardinal Stritch for the past three seasons under his father, Joseph, who was Zolecki’s high school baseball coach at St. Thomas More High School (St. Francis, Wis.). Joseph Zolecki taught at Thomas More for 40 years and was head coach for 25 seasons.
