The St. Mary’s men’s basketball team renews its crosstown rivalry with UTSA this Wednesday in the Alamodome at 7 p.m. Pregame festivities begin with a joint pep rally at 5:30 p.m. at Aldaco’s in Sunset Station, located just north of the Alamodome (map and directions).

Rattler men’s basketball is broadcast by KLUP AM 930 and over the Internet via www.klup.com.

Wednesday’s match up is the first meeting in two years for the Division II Rattlers (2-2) and Division I Roadrunners (1-3). It will be the 12th all-time meeting between the two schools, with UTSA holding an 8-3 all-time advantage. UTSA won their last meeting, in 2000 at UTSA, 61-55.

From the mid-1980s through 1991, the Rattler-Roadrunner match up was held at the Hemisfair Arena. Billed as the Mayor’s cup, these annual pairings pitted UTSA, San Antonio’s only D-I program, against St. Mary’s, then one of the top NAIA teams in the Southwest. St. Mary’s last victory over UTSA came in the January 1991 Mayor’s Cup; the Roadrunners won the final Mayor’s Cup in December 2001.

Pre-sale tickets for the 2002 “Cross Town Showdown” are $10 for adults, $5 for students and children and free for UTSA Students with proper ID. Tickets are available at the St. Mary’s Athletics Department, the UTSA Athletics department, through Ticketmaster (210-244-9600) or for $12 on game day at the Alamodome Box Office.

All St. Mary’s Athletics Booster Club members are reminded of the social following the game, to be held at the Alamo Depot Sports Bar, located at 1157 East Commerce Street, in St. Paul’s Square, just north of Sunset Station.
