Join the Global Scholars Program at St. Mary’s University
At St. Mary’s University, we are proud to be a global learning community housing students from across the world. The Global Scholars Program at St. Mary’s recognizes and supports our exceptional international students who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to fostering cultural understanding.
The program aims to cultivate leaders and ambassadors who can navigate and contribute our interconnecting world, both within the University and beyond. By embracing the values of integrity, service and inclusivity, the Global Scholars will help shape a global campus community that celebrates diversity and fosters positive cross-cultural relationships.

The Global Scholars Student Experience
As a Global Scholar, students will actively engage in creating and organizing events that promote cultural exchange and inclusivity on campus. These events enhance the sense of community among international and domestic students and foster an environment of learning and mutual respect. In addition, scholars will receive guidance on understanding their immigration status and related policies.

Benefits of Joining
Each Global Scholar receives a $2,000 scholarship to support their academic endeavors and personal development.

As leaders within the St. Mary’s community, Global Scholars will take part in many international leadership events throughout the year, such as:

Students in the program will receive formal recognition as Global Scholars, highlighting their commitment to academic excellence and leadership.
Requirements of a Global Scholar
- Global Scholars must maintain a GPA of 3.2 or higher and good academic standing to renew their scholarship each year, with regular check-ins to monitor progress.
- Students must re-apply each year, reflecting on their growth and participation, which is evaluated through attendance at meetings, retreats and events.
- Scholars are required to complete 7 hours of community service and attend 18 hours of program events each semester. Participation in special activities, semester retreats and personal development, preparing them to be leaders who contribute positively to global engagement.

How do I apply to the Global Scholars Program?
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Global Scholars Program, students must meet the following criteria:
- An incoming international freshman enrolled full-time at St. Mary’s University
- Demonstrate leadership potential and commitment to fostering cross-cultural exchange
- Maintain an F-1 student visa while studying at St. Mary’s University
- Good academic and student conduct standing
Application
The Global Scholars program is open to all majors. Those interested in joining the program must complete their applications for undergraduate admission to St. Mary’s first. Once completed, qualified applicants will be invited to submit a separate application to the Global Scholars Program online and submit the following:
- Résumé
- Video (2-3 minutes in length)
