The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (the Act) requires employers to verify both the identity and work eligibility of all new employees within three business days of employment. Employers must attest on an I-9 form that they have examined certain documents to verify the employment eligibility and identity of the individual hired. Every new employee must report to the Office of Human Resources immediately upon hire with proof of identity (i.e. passport or driver’s license) and eligibility to work (i.e. passport, green card, social security card, or birth certificate). Please contact the Office of Human Resources for information concerning acceptable verification documents. The Office of Human Resources will provide employees with all the necessary forms that must be completed including a W-4 and all benefits applications.
