Educational research is the cornerstone that enhances critical thinking skills and provides hands-on experience for students entering the job market or advanced degree programs. When involved in research, creative and scholarly activities, students enjoy positive, life-changing relationships with Faculty and further the human experience.
To allow the University Community (students) to access campus facilities for educational research purposes after normal business hours, while maintaining the safety and security of the program participants.
The University defines normal business hours as Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. After-hours is defined as any day of the week outside of those time frames.
Individuals requesting after hours access for education research must obtain a late-entry pass. In order to obtain the pass the “Late-entry Pass Request” form must be submitted every semester to the University Police Department during normal business hours. This form can be located on Gateway under the resource tab and the University Police Department.
Any department employee can make a request. All requests must be authorized by the department’s dean, associate dean, or director and must include ending times. Late-entry passes will not be issued for a 24-hour time period.
Late-entry passes will be normally ready for pick up five days after the completed form is submitted.
Between semesters or when classes are not in session, as listed by the Office of the Registrar, the Police Department will not open any secured area on campus after hours unless otherwise indicated by an office administrator and in writing. (2 a.m. will be the ending time for each pass.)
There will be no admission into any area without a late-entry pass. In the interest of maintaining proper safety and security of the University and students, the Police Department will not honor phone calls to open any secured area. Please make sure every individual requiring access into any building or room on campus after hours has a late-entry pass and a current St. Mary’s Rattler ID Card. In the interest of student safety, it is preferable that students be accompanied by another student (if your department follows a “buddy system,” be sure to adhere to those requirements).
The University Police Department will contact the person making the request when passes are ready for pick-up. Late-entry Passes will not be issued by campus mail. Therefore, we recommend that the department making such request have someone available to pick up the passes. Individuals picking up Late-entry Passes must show appropriate identification and sign for the passes.
If a late-entry pass is lost or stolen, student must immediately report this issue to their dean, associate dean, or director, as well as the Police Department.
