San Antonio – St. Mary’s is still on the mind of the Heartland Conference, as for the second time running a Lady Rattler is named the Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, with Valentine Lambrechts taking home the honor this time, the league announced this week.

Lambrechts (Jr., Belgium) had a big week for St. Mary’s, going unbeaten (2-0) in singles play while also picking up a doubles win against North Central Texas College. Against St. Edward’s Alexandra Khadzhyan, Lambrechts overcame being shut out in the opening set to win the next two, 6-4, 7-6 for the victory.

A junior from Belgium, Lambrechts’ point in the three-set battle over rival St. Edward’s was the lone St. Mary’s score for the match, possibly setting the tone for the rest of her season of hard play. Now on a two-game winning streak that earned her the Heartland Conference Player of the Week, Lambrechts’ balanced 5-5 season record may just tip over .500 this week.

Lambrechts’ teammate Elisha Bryant won the award last week.
