Seguin, Texas – In first-round action at Texas Lutheran University’s 1st Annual Doc Skogman Invitational on Friday, Kelly Cooper (Jr., San Antonio) fell to Brittini Fausett of Temple Junior College, 3-6, 1-6, while Elisha Bryant fell to Southwestern University’s Victoria De Leon 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 7-10.

But Bryant bounced back in the second round to beat Our Lady of the Lake University’s Thea Lonewolf 7-5, 6-1.

Anita Qureshi (So., San Antonio) dropped straight sets in the first round to OLLU’s Leslie Cooper, 3-6, 5-7, while Erica Carmona (Jr., Converse, Texas) beat OLLU’s Michelle Reyes 6-3, 6-2. Both were victorious in the second round, with Qureshi beating Temple Junior College’s Brittany Harness 6-3, 7-5, and Carmona defeating Temple Junior College’s Heather Pergande 7-6 (7-3), 6-0.

Huong Huynh (Jr., Houston) and Rachel Gutierrez (So., San Antonio) both won in the first round, with Huynh breezing past TLU’s Rica Arizola 6-0, 6-2 and Gutierrez beating Temple Junior College’s Valentina Kecman 6-1, 6-3. The second round will continue for both Saturday.

In first-round doubles play, Huynh and Qureshi beat Lonewolf and Audrey Alba from OLLU 8-6, while Cooper/Carmona clipped TLU’s Jessica Flayer and Karissa Lopez 8-0. Bryant/Gutierrez fell to OLLU’s Perez/Cooper 4-8.

Competition resumes Saturday.
