San Antonio – Despite playing a hard-fought match, the St. Mary’s women’s tennis team couldn’t quite pick up its first Heartland Conference victory of the year Monday.
Though Kelly Cooper (Jr., San Antonio) and Erica Carmona (Jr., Converse, Texas) turned in stellar showings, the women fell 3-6 to Newman at the St. Mary’s Tennis Courts.
Kelly and Cooper teamed up to defeat Lawler/Dunham 8-3, and then proceeded to win their singles matches as well.
Both the men and women will return to action Saturday, when they host conference foe Dallas Baptist at 11 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Tennis Courts.
