CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The St. Mary’s women’s tennis team opened up its spring season with a pair of spirited defeats at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, falling 7-0 and 6-0 last week.

In the first match of the doubleheader, Valentine Lambrechts (Jr., Belgium) and Denissia Gonzalez (Fr., Houston) took some points off A&M Corpus Christi’s top duo of Doris Kuselj and Mirna Cicak before falling 8-2. Lambrechts also competed hard in singles competition against Cicak in a 6-4, 6-1 defeat.

In the nightcap, doubles competition was not played as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi swept singles play – but it wasn’t easy for the Lady Rattlers’ Division I opponent.

Kelly Cooper (Sr., San Antonio) fought Chelsea Horan until the bitter end, falling 7-6, 6-2, while Angelique DeOliveira (Sr., Wattrelos, France) also competed against Cicak in a 6-0, 6-4 defeat.

The Lady Rattlers, who are 0-2 on the season, will be back on the court tomorrow at Trinity University. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
