San Antonio – For the first time this season, the St. Mary’s Rattlers claim a Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Week in keeper Paola Ostos.

St. Mary’s (8-6, 2-5 in conference) is currently on a two-shutout run thanks to the goalie Ostos (Jr., El Paso, Texas), who picked up her first shutout on the season in the 5-0 victory over McMurry University and helped the Rattlers to their second straight shutout in the 3-0 victory over the University of Texas-Permian Basin last week.

In her 135 minutes played, Ostos picked up three saves and allowed zero goals from her competition that tallied 15 shots throughout both games.

Ostos’ Player of the Week award this season complements her continued success which began last year. As a sophomore last season, Ostos had 76 saves on the season, making her sixth St. Mary’s history for the most saves in a single season. She also had a hand in four shutouts, tying for the eighth place rank in the record books for a single season.

Ostos, who has shared time with Alyssa Taramona (Fr., Forney, Teas), has recorded 22 saves so far this season with a 3-2 record on the season.
