San Antonio – Marcey Morales scored the only goal of the game for St. Mary’s University, while Brittany Sullivan made nine saves in goal as the Rattlers tied West Texas A&M University, 1-1, in women’s soccer action Thursday afternoon at St. Mary’s Soccer Field.

Despite controlling play in the first half, WTAMU was unable to capitalize and the game was scoreless at the half. But just 3:53 into the second half Adi Stein sent a through ball between a pair of defenders to Lindsay McHorse, who touched the ball past Sullivan (Fr., San Antonio) for a 1-0 Buffalo lead.

Less than 10 minutes later the Rattlers responded. Emilie Snelson (Fr., Fairview) sent a cross into the penalty area that Morales (Sr., Lytle) received and one-touched past goalkeeper Lisha Jungmann to tie the game at 1-1. WTAMU continued to pepper Sullivan with shots – 13 in the second half alone – but could not find the net again in regulation. Despite the loss of Brandi Battles (So., Waxahachie) to a red card early in the first overtime period, the Rattlers were able to continue to get good looks at the goal. The teams combined for five shots, but neither found the net in either 10 minute overtime, ending the game in a tie.

In the game WTAMU outshot the Rattlers 23-14 and took eight corner kicks to three for St. Mary’s. Sullivan’s nine saves were a season-high. Jungmann finished with three saves for the Buffaloes.

With the tie, the Rattlers are now 0-4-1 this season. WTAMU failed to win for the first time in five games this season. St. Mary’s will return to action on Friday at 1 p.m. when they host Northeastern State University in the first game of a men’s/women’s doubleheader.
