San Antonio – The last time St. Mary’s and St. Edward’s met in women’s soccer, the Hilltoppers escaped in an overtime thriller in Austin, Texas.

On Thursday, the rivals from up north picked up where they left off earlier this month.

Behind Rachel Murray’s hat trick, St. Edward’s stunned the Lady Rattlers 5-0 before nearly 100 fans at Our Lady of the Lake University, the Rattlers’ newest makeshift home-away-from-home as renovations are set to get underway on campus for the new Outdoor Sports Complex.

Murray scored back-to-back goals nearly 50 seconds apart late in the first half to build a 3-0 halftime lead before tacking on a third goal in the second half.

Kelly Servage and Kristen Hart also struck for the Hilltoppers on a “Battle of the Saints” day in which St. Edward’s outshot St. Mary’s 18-1.

While the Lady Rattlers (8-6-2, 5-4 in Heartland Conference) wanted a better showing, the loss did little to hurt their playoff chances. Having already secured the third seed in next month’s Heartland Tournament, St. Mary’s still stands strong entering the tournament.

Rattlers goalkeeper Paola Ostos (So., El Paso, Texas) recorded four saves, while Carolyn Martin (Jr., San Antonio) recorded the team’s only shot in the game.

The Rattlers will close out the regular season against Dallas Baptist at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Lake. The game also marks “Senior Day,” as seniors Ashley Condrin (Trophy Club, Texas) and Andrea Gregg (Austin, Texas) will be honored during the game.
