DALLAS – The St. Mary’s women’s soccer team was outshot and outscored as Dallas Baptist, the No. 2-ranked team in the Heartland Conference, silenced the Rattlers on the road, 3-0.

The Patriots (7-4-1) netted their first goal two minutes into the game with an assist from Brittany Layne to Kourtney Edwards that put the Rattlers down 1-0.

The Rattlers (5-4-2) were able to hold the Patriots for the rest of the first half and were trailing by one at the start of the second. But Dallas Baptist took control of the scoreboard in the 54th minute with a goal from Lea Sedwick from a set piece free kick. Patriot Stephanie Harrison widened the gap on the Rattlers and closed out the game with a goal off a one-timer off pass for the final score of 3-0.

The Rattlers (2-2 in conference) had seven shots on goal but were trumped by Dallas Baptist’s (4-1 in conference) 15 shots on goal. The Patriots’ skill at finding the net gave Paola Ostos (So., El Paso, Texas) 12 saves in her 90 minutes of play.

Leah Snelson (So., Dallas) and Kaitie Kasperitis (Fr., Corpus Christi, Texas) led the Rattlers in shots on goal with two each. Snelson and Kasperitis also lead the Rattlers’ total goals for the season with four and eight, respectively.

Amanda Cardoza (So., El Paso, Texas), Caili Smith (Fr., Plano, Texas) and Ashleigh Wells (Fr., Dallas) were all on the stat sheet with one shot on goal apiece.

The Rattlers hope to pull out of their two-game losing streak in their next game against Texas-Permian Basin on their home turf on Northside ISD Soccer Field next Tuesday at 2 p.m.
