San Antonio–The St. Mary’s University Women’s soccer team rallied late from a one-goal deficit to capture a 2-1 victory over Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions on Friday afternoon at St. Mary’s University Soccer Field. With the win, the Rattlers improved to 5-4-0 on the season, while Commerce dropped to 4-4-0.
 
The Lions scored 41 seconds into the second period as Dana Deerinwater connected on Megan Monroe’s corner for her second goal on the season. The Rattlers would equalize at the 80 minute mark off a solo effort by Amanda McMullan who hit the upper 90 from 23 yards out for her first goal of the season. Six minutes later Deann Lopez hit the game-winning goal off a pass from Christina Mercedes from 15 yards out.  For Lopez, the goal increased her season total to three on the year.
 
The Rattlers’ keeper, Jamie Talley, picked up seven saves to improve to 5-4 on the year, while the Lions’ Jennifer Alvarado picked up 5 saves in the loss, dropping her season record to 4-4. The Rattlers had 13 shots total, seven on goal, while the Lions had 15 total, eight on goal.

The Rattlers will hit the road in their next action on September 27 as they will play conference foe Dallas Baptist University. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m. The Rattlers return to St. Mary’s September 30, at noon, playing a non-conference battle against Central Oklahoma.
