San Antonio – Amanda McMullan scored her first two goals of the season, helping St. Mary’s University to its first win of the season, 2-1, in non-conference women’s soccer action Friday afternoon at St. Mary’s University Soccer Field.

McMullan (Sr., Allen) scored twice in a single game for just the second time in her Rattler career. She scored two goals against Texas A&M International University on Oct. 14 last season. She gave the Rattlers the lead in the 44th minute, taking a cross from Marcey Morales (Sr., Lytle) and putting it under goalkeeper Patricia Nardy for a 1-0 lead.

Kristina Marshall tied things at 1-1 when she dribbled through the Rattler defense and beat Brittany Sullivan (Fr., San Antonio) for her third goal of the season. That set up McMullan’s second goal. McMullan took in a long pass from Melinda Gentry (So., Plano), dribbled into the penalty area and beat Nardy to the right corner to give the Rattlers the lead for good.

Sullivan picked up the win in goal for the Rattlers, making seven saves, just one day after making nine saves in the Rattlers 1-1 tie with West Texas A&M University. NSU outshot the Rattlers 15-7 in the game and took 11 corner kicks to two for St. Mary’s.

With the win the Rattlers are now 1-4-1 overall this season, while Northeastern State is 1-3-1. The Rattlers will return to action on Friday, Sept. 26, when they travel to Wichita, Kan., to face Newman University in a Heartland Conference match.
