LAREDO, Texas – Snapping a three-game conference losing streak, the St. Mary’s women’s soccer team went a long way toward securing its berth in next month’s Heartland Conference Tournament with a 2-0 victory over Texas A&M International on Sunday.

Kaitie Kasperitis (Fr., Corpus Christi, Texas) had a goal and an assist, while Leia Kirch (Jr., Carrollton, Texas) also found the back of the net to help the Lady Rattlers improve to 6-5-2 overall and 3-3 in league play.

With four conference games remaining, St. Mary’s holds a two-game edge over the fourth- and- fifth-place teams (Newman and Texas A&M International, respectively) in the wins column.

St. Mary’s goalkeeper Paola Ostos (So., El Paso, Texas) pitched her third shutout of the season, recording five saves in 90 minutes.

The Rattlers outshot the Dustdevils 9-8 in the game, with Kasperitis leading the way with three.

St. Mary’s will return to action Friday, when it plays at Newman at 7 p.m.
