San Antonio – St. Mary’s University women’s soccer coach Corwyn Ritch announced on Thursday the signing of five student-athletes to national letters of intent to join the Rattlers, starting with the 2008 season. Jessie Bell, Trophy Club native Ashley Condrin, Fort Worth native Elizabeth Rubi, Fairview native Emily Snelson and Weatherford native Jenae Steensma all signed on with the Rattlers.

Bell, (So., Amarillo) a 5’7″ midfielder, comes to San Antonio from Cisco Junior College where she played for coach Scott Troups the last two years. As a sophomore in 2007 she was on her way to an even better season, but an injury limited her to just seven games. She scored six goals and assisted on two more in those seven games. Cisco was 4-2-1 prior to her injury and finished the season 11-8-3.

Condrin (Fr., Trophy Club) is a 5’4″ midfielder from Trophy Club. She was a standout for coach James Braggs, earning all-district honors.

Rubi (Fr., Forth Worth), a 5’1″ midfielder/forward, joins the Rattlers after earning four letters for coach Melissa Forgey at Keller Central High School. She earned all-district honors each of her first two years at KCHS. She tore her ACL and missed nearly the entire season. She was also a standout in cross country track and field, earning four letters in cross country and two in track and field. She was a state qualifier in track in both the 100-meter hurdles and 4×400-meter relay. Off the field she is a member of the National Honor Society.

Snelson (Fr., Fairview) is a 5’3″ midfielder, who will join the Rattlers after a standout career at Bishop Lynch High School for coach Jennifer Sims. She earned all-district honors three times for BLHS and was named Newcomer of the Year. She helped the team to the state playoffs her freshmen year. She was named Most Improved Player of the Year as a sophomore. Off the field she was a Presidential Award winner and a member of the A-B Honor Roll.

Steensma (Jr., Weatherford, Okla.), a 5’7″ defenseman, comes to St. Mary’s after playing for coach Scott Toups the last two seasons at Cisco Junior College. As a freshman in 2006 she played in just three games, but made a strong impact, scoring three goals, including two against Bossier Parish Community College. As a sophomore in 2007 she scored two more goals. She attended high school at Weatherford High School for coach Tyler Kernan where she earned all-district honors twice. She was her team defensive MVP twice as well. She helped WHS to the bi-district championship once. Off the field she was a three-time academic all-district honoree.

A rash of injuries led to St. Mary’s first losing season in five years. The Rattlers ended the 2007 season with a 9-10-1 overall record and a 5-6-1 mark in Heartland Conference play.
