POTTSBORO, Texas – The St. Mary’s women’s golf team is in 10th place after the first day of the Pepsi Lion Invitational.

Led by Alejandra Cantu’s first-round 83, the Lady Rattlers look to contend for a top-three finish in Tuesday’s final round.

Cantu (Jr., Mission, Texas), who fired a 39 on the back nine, is tied for 10th place in the individual standings. Julia Dickens (So., Fredericksburg, Texas) is right behind, tied for 19th after carding an 85 on Monday.

Joined by a cluster teams that shot in the 340s and 350s, St. Mary’s finished the first round just 11 strokes out of the top five.

Tournament host Texas A&M-Commerce leads the event after firing a 335 in the opening round. East Central’s Whitney McDaniel and Truman State’s Jennifer Lawson lead all individuals after shooting 78.
