SAN ANGELO, Texas – After leading St. Mary’s to a third-place finish last week with her best career showing, Julia Dickens is leading once more after the first round of the Concho River Classic.

The senior is just shy of cracking the top 20 on the first day of the tournament, leading the Rattler pack in a tie for 23rd place. Dickens (Fredericksburg, Texas) shot a 78 Monday, one stroke above her career best of 77 shot last week at the Incarnate Word Ladies Golf Invitational. Dickens is the lone Rattler to finish the day below the 80 mark.

St. Mary’s is nestled in at the 10 spot out of the 13 teams competing after the first round, finishing the opening day with a team score of 327. Sitting at the No.1 spot with a team score of 297 is rival St. Edward’s University, followed by Midwestern State University and another Heartland Conference competitor, Newman University. Leading the tournament is University of the Incarnate Word’s Flower Castillo, who won the Incarnate Word Ladies Golf Invitational, with a 70.

Two strokes behind and a few places below Dickens is Camille Furgeson (Sr., Newcastle, Calif.), tied in 34th place with an 80 followed by her sister, Bailey Furgeson (So., Newcastle, Calif.), in 37th place with an 81.

The Rattlers will continue the Concho River Classic tomorrow in San Angelo, Texas.
