San Antonio – Liz Boyd scored six of her 17 points in overtime, helping St. Mary’s University past St. Edward’s University in Heartland Conference women’s basketball action Thursday night at Bill Greehey Arena.

It took 2:14 of the overtime until Mallory Moeller finally gave the Rattlers the lead on a layup, making the score 50-48. Kristin Williams (Jr., Kansas City) followed with a layup of her own on the next possession, making it 52-48 with 2:14 left to play. Kelli Payton cut the Rattler lead to one ;with a 3-pointer, but Boyd (Fr., San Antonio) responded with a 3-pointer of her own to get the lead back to four at 55-51 with 1:29 left. After Brittany Ward hit two free throws to make it a two-point game, the Rattlers shut the Hilltoppers down for the final 1:08 of the game, with Boyd making three free throws to ice the victory.

Boyd was 5-of-13 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line to lead all players. She also pulled down 8 rebounds. Williams hit on 7-of-13 shots from the field to score 14 points and added 9 rebounds. Mallory Moeller (Jr., Seguin, Texas) came off the bench to score 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and also pulled down 10 rebounds.

With the win, St. Mary’s improved to 18-6 overall and 10-2 in Heartland Conference play. St. Edward’s fell to 6-17, 4-6. The Rattlers will return to action on Saturday when they host Texas A&M International University at 2 p.m. at Bill Greehey Arena.
