Reinvestment Strategy Project Kicks Off

St. Mary's University, the city of San Antonio’s Department of Planning and Community Development (DPCD) and Councilman Cris Medina (District 7) will host a “Town Hall” meeting on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at St. Mary’s University’s AT&T Center for Information Technology (One Camino Santa Maria, near the Culebra Rd. entrance) from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

This meeting is designed to inform the community about revitalization efforts planned for the St. Mary's University Neighborhood Revitalization Project.  Area stakeholders and residents are especially encouraged to attend to learn about the reinvestment strategy, potential partnerships and provide feedback.

“The Neighborhood Revitalization Project is a true partnership with our neighbors, local business owners and community leaders, and this town hall is another step in continuing this collaboration,” said Thomas M. Mengler, J.D., St. Mary’s University President.

“I hope all residents will take this unique opportunity to share their vision as we transform this historic corridor,” stated Councilman Medina.

As part of an overall reinvestment strategy for various areas of the city, some improvements will include: infrastructure, home repair and parks. “The goal of this strategy is to improve the quality of life in the community by rehabilitating homes and businesses, improving streetscapes and fostering better communication between the City and residents,” said John Dugan, Director of DPCD.

The strategic reinvestment initiative is intended to provide comprehensive services within a targeted neighborhood, district or corridor in the City of San Antonio. It is an inter-departmental collaborative that seeks to transform distressed areas into ones of opportunity designed to sustain and increase owner occupancy, strengthen property values, improve the physical appearance and quality of life of neighborhoods and boost commercial corridors.
