DENTON, Texas – Staring down a halftime deficit Wednesday night, St. Mary’s forward Morgan Pullins went to work against Texas Woman’s University.
Pullins scored 16 of her 23 points in the second half and totaled eight boards, leading the Lady Rattlers to a comfortable 62-51 victory after trailing by two at the break before a crowd of 221 at the Kitty Magee Arena.
Mariah Lee and Lia Kioa cracked double digits with 10 points apiece, while Felicia Jacobs and Liz Boyd added eight each, helping the Rattlers overcome a cold first half in which they shot 9 of 28 from the floor.
But it was undeniable Pullins’ night, as the sophomore from Franklin, Mich., connected on 8 of 12 shots from the floor to go along with seven free throws to guide St. Mary’s to a 7-2 record.
Though Texas Woman’s (2-6) led 27-25 at the half, the Rattlers turned it on in the second. Three straight layups from Pullins put the Rattlers up 37-46 at the 14-minute mark, and the lead swelled to double digits by the midway point of the period.
In all, St. Mary’s shot 13 for 24 in the half for their fourth straight win – three of which came by double figures.
St. Mary’s actually led by 10 early in the first half but a 16-7 TWU run helped close the gap to one late in the frame.
Red-hot, the Rattlers will now get a bit of a breather, as they won’t return to action until Dec. 17 when they travel to play at Southeastern Oklahoma State.
